When militants seize control of the U.S. embassy in Tehran during the height of the Iranian Revolution, CIA agent Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) creates a fake Hollywood production in order to fool the terrorists into releasing a group of U.S. diplomats in this docudrama based on actual events. Using multiple film stocks and reportedly blowing up some of the 35mm footage for a grainier texture, director Affleck achieves the look, feel, and almost smell of the late 1970s.
