Shortly after Philip Marlowe gives friend Terry Lenox a ride to Mexico, he’s questioned about the death of Terry’s wife—and then Terry turns up dead, too.

Marlowe doesn't buy it, but takes a new missing persons case from one Eileen Wade, who coincidentally (or perhaps not?) has a past with Terry.
