Shimu fled her village as a child when her stepmother threatened to marry her off to a middle-aged man.

Now 23 and living in the capital, she works grueling hours for paltry sums at a textile factory while her husband searches for work.

She decides to start a union with her co-workers and, despite threats from the management and disapproval of her husband, Shimu is determined to go on. Together, the women working in the factory must fight and find a way.

"With Made in Bangladesh, Hossain has crafted an urgent cry for workers' rights, and a vision of feminist solidarity in the face of overwhelming opposition. And with her majority-women crew (including a female cinematographer, editor, and production designer, among others), she is actively creating the ideal she portrays on screen." — Cinema Scope
