Anja, a forestry student, finds herself in the remote woods where she vacationed with her parents as an eight-year-old girl—and where her father disappeared without a trace.

Shortly after her arrival, a brutal murder takes place. Soon, Anja's suspicion that the perpetrator knows something about her father's fate arouses wariness and hostility among the villagers and the local police.

And when it turns out that the young woman can read the signs of the forest like an open book, forces mobilize in the village that seem ready for anything.
