Rental option 1: Bring your own DVD or Blu-Ray. These rentals are available on a sliding scale starting at $100. Our suggested rate is $250 for Members and $300 for Non-Members.
Rental option 2: Choose from a rotating catalog of new release and repertory titles selected by the Amherst Cinema programming team. These rentals are available on a sliding scale starting at $175. Groups of up to 10 guests are allowed per rental.
Rentals take place in Theater 1, our largest theater.
If supplying your own disc, we request that your film's runtime be 120 minutes or less, and that you get us the disc at least 48 hours in advance for tech testing. We'll be in touch after your rental purchase to coordinate delivery.
Purchase of the rental constitutes acknowledgement that you and your group are not exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and have not been in contact with individuals known to be COVID positive within the last two weeks. Individual safety waivers must be signed by all party members upon arrival for the rental.

Why Sliding Scale?
We're offering all rentals on a sliding scale in an effort to bring the cinema experience to as many patrons as possible. We encourage you to pay what you can. If meeting or exceeding the suggested rate is within your budget, those funds will go a long way in paying the staff working the rental, covering operation costs, and providing direct financial support for an eventual Amherst Cinema reopening. What movie can my group watch?
You can either provide your own DVD or Blu-Ray to watch, or select a film from our rotating catalog of new release and repertory titles. Click here to see the January 2021 film catalog.
If you choose to provide your own disc, we will be in touch with you to coordinate and confirm delivery of your film. We'll need the disc in hand at least 48 hours in advance of your rental time to ensure quality presentation.
What health and safety precautions have been implemented at Amherst Cinema?
- Masks must be worn at all times by guests and staff. Masks may only be removed while enjoying concessions in your seat in Theater 1.
- For contact tracing purposes, all theater rental guests will be asked to sign in upon entering the building.
- Installation of virus-blocking UV filters and ionizers in HVAC system and bathrooms.
- Increased fresh air intake.
- Theaters have isolated HVAC systems. Air in each theater is not co-mingling with other spaces.
- Frequent disinfection of “high touch” surfaces like bathroom fixtures and door handles.
- Between-show disinfection of seat backs, arm rests and bathrooms.
- All of our seats have recently been replaced and now feature easy-to-clean surfaces and materials.
When should we arrive at the screening?
We encourage you to arrive at your reserved showtime. A staff member will be in the lobby to greet you and review our safety protocols before your movie starts. Please note that if you arrive more than fifteen minutes after your reserved showtime, the screening will be cancelled.
Do we have to wear masks and practice social distancing?
All members of your party will be required to wear masks during your visit. Masks may be removed only while enjoying our concessions inside Theater 1. Please maintain at least six feet of distance during all interactions with our staff.
Will you be selling concessions?
Concessions are available for preorder along with your rental reservation. All concessions must be ordered ahead of time to reduce face-to-face contact with our staff. Your order will be prepared shortly before your arrival and ready for pickup on your way into the theater.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my reservation?
Due to our need to schedule staff, reservations may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 72 hours in advance for a full refund. Cancellations less than 72 hours prior to a reservation are subject to a $100 fee. If you or any of your party members are experiecing COVID-like symptoms ahead of your rental, please contact us ASAP.
