Amherst Cinema opened in 2006 thanks to a remarkable community effort to create our art house movie theater. Generous support from individuals like you enabled Amherst Cinema to embark on its mission and become our region’s premier film center.
Prior to COVID-19, our fourteen-year-old seats had reached the end of their useful lives and we applied for a Cultural Facilities Fund grant to replace them. Months into the pandemic, we were awarded a $90,000 matching grant from Mass Cultural Council and MassDevelopment. We are thrilled and deeply thankful to receive this grant—but we need to raise $90,000 of our own in order to activate the funding.
We are now calling on the generosity of our supporters to help us make this match. This ambitious renovation not only replaces all seats in our main theaters, but now includes measures to provide a safe movie-going experience for all, including new box office and concession areas, plexiglass barriers at staff-customer contact points, and HVAC improvements such as increased fresh air intake, ionizers, and UV filters.
Your purchase of a dedicated seat plaque will greatly help finance this important renovation. You can purchase a seat as an individual, couple, family or group. Your engraved plaque can be serious or fun, heartfelt or playful, sentimental or clever.
We invite you to Have a Seat!

Seats are available on a first come, first served basis. Seats that have already been reserved will be greyed out. We'll update these maps often, but if you do request a seat that has already been taken, we'll be in touch to find another seat that works for you. Thank you!
