Scored by Sakamoto

Celebrating one of the world’s great musicians, join us for a selection of films scored by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

After rising to fame with pioneering synth-pop band Yellow Magic Orchestra in the late 1970s, Sakamoto began scoring movies with 1983's MERRY CHRISTMAS MR. LAWRENCE, with over 40 features scored by the artist before his death in March, 2023. This series culminates with OPUS, a concert film chronicling Sakamoto’s final piano recitals, which also kicks off our Sound & Vision summer music series.

With this enduring and affecting World War II drama, Ryuichi Sakamoto made not only his film scoring debut but his acting debut, starring with David Bowie in the story of a British soldier interned in a Japanese POW camp.
